Kaustinen Intangible Cultural Heritage Academy. Blended Intensive Programme with an Erasmus+ grant.

Students are invited to apply for the Kaustinen ICH Academy taking place in Finland in July 2026. Participants will receive an Erasmus+ grant.

The blended intensive programme (BIP) includes online and onsite learning. Upon successful completion of, 3 ECTS credits will be awarded and transferred to the University of Tartu curriculum.

The Kaustinen ICH Academy allows participants to expand and share their knowledge about the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage and of traditions of music and dance.

This BIP course includes lectures and seminars by scolars and experts from both Finland and other countries. Elo-Hanna Seljamaa, Professor of Cultural Heritage, will be representing the University of Tartu.

The onsite programme is held during the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival. Students of the BIP course are granted a free entry to the festival.

Application deadline is 22 April 2026.

Application requirements

  • BA and MA level students from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and the Faculty of Social Sciences can apply.


Dates

  • Onsite component: 14-18 July 2026 in Kaustinen, Finland.
  • Virtual component: 3 June 2026 at 14:00-16:00, 9 July 2026 at 14:00-16:00 and once after the physical mobility.


Accommodation during the onsite component

  • Participants of the course can stay in a school house.
  • The price for one night including breakfast is about 25-35 eurot.

Transport

  • Students from the University of Tartu get a discount on the ships of Tallink and Silja Line. Tickets need to be purchased via an employee.
  • Getting to Kaustinen.

Please make sure you are familiar with the terms and grants of Erasmus+ blended mobility before submitting the application.


Erasmus+ blended mobility application should be submitted via SoleMOVE system as follows:

  1. Log into the system using your UT credentials.
  2. From the menu at left side bar, choose "Applications".
    Student mobility application templates are not listed in case you have an employee status at UT. Please e-mail [email protected] and kindly ask to add outgoing student status to your SoleMove user.
  3. Click "Create new application" to start creating an application (application type: short student exchange).
  4. Choose “Study" for the type of mobility.
  5. Select application period (competition call) from the list: „Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programs (BIPs) 2026/27"
  6. Click "save" to save the draft and start filling out the application.

Start filling out the application from the tab "Exchange information", not from the first (personal data). It is important because choosing the study abroad exchange programme defines the fields of the application template accordingly. Once the study abroad exchange programme has been selected, the application template gets changed. Before that it is displayed as a general template. Then fill in all the remaining fields (including personal data).

The course is organised by the Centria University of Applied Sciences (Finland) in collaboration with the University of the Arts Helsinki (Finland), the Malmö Academy of Music (Sweden), the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, the University of Tartu (Estonia) and NTNU GIEM (Taiwan), among others.

From the University of Tartu, the partner is the UNESCO Chair on Applied Studies of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
