The UNESCO Chair on Applied Studies of Intangible Cultural Heritage is launching a new series showcasing research and initiatives on intangible cultural heritage. The first hybrid meeting is held on 20 November.

The series, titled “Perspectives of Intangible Cultural Heritage”, meets once a month, either hybridly or online, and is open to everyone. Featuring lectures and discussions, the series aims to bring together scholars, students and practitioners working on and thinking about the category of intangible cultural heritage and related themes.

Besides academic research conducted at universities and by colleagues at the UNESCO Chairs worldwide, by students and established academics alike, the series presents applied research initiatives and projects undertaken by heritage professionals, communities, and NGOs.

The overarching goal is to explore what difference the category of intangible cultural heritage makes, and could make, in today’s globalised world and to explore common themes between heritage studies and other areas of research and practice.

Season 2025-2026

The programme for the first season comprises six meetings, covering topics ranging from building trust with indigenous research participants, to vintage developmentalism in Africa, and language revitalisation across Europe.
