Bijoy Sankar Barmani loeng Assami folkloorist 18. septembril 2015

18. septembril, kell 14.15 peab Gauhati ülikooli doktorant Bijoy Sankar Barman Tartu Ülikoolis loengu teemal "Transmitting Lived Lores through Poetry: Perspective of a Native Assamese".

Loeng toimub von Bocki õppehoone (Ülikooli 16) auditooriumis 212.

Loengu teesid:

Standing between the borders of identity of a 'practitioner' of native Assamese poetry with deeply rooted folk consciousness and of a folklorist at the same time, this is an ardent endeavour to revisit few of the lived lores of the greater Assamese society transmitted through these self-composed poems from the purview of a researcher. Discarding the identity of a creator of this handful of poems, the poet's role here is ascertained as of a mere informant or as a reflexive small unit of the Assamese nativity. Discussing the backgrounds, sources, and the traits of these poems, the focus will be on the extensive domains of lived lores and vernacular beliefs prevalent in the Assamese society with all its age-old traditions, rituals, demonology, myths, proverbs, riddles, folk songs and so on. This is also an attempt to discuss and to analyse how these facets of living culture get juxtaposed and intermingled with each other, and how the chemistry of folk consciousness could connote different layers of understanding of the society through the genres of present day poetry.
