Lectures by Prof. Giacomella Orofino and Valentina Punzi on Tibetian religion, June 20, 2013

Professor Giacomella Orofino (University of Naples “L’Orientale”) will deliver at the Department of Estonian and Comparative Folklore a lecture titled "The Bon Religion of Tibet" on Thursday, June 20, at 12.15 in Ülikooli 16-214.

Giacomella Orofino got her Master Degree in Tibetan Studies at the University of Naples “L’Orientale” in 1982 and her Ph.D at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 1987. She is Professor of Tibetan Studies at the University of Naples “L’Orientale” and President of the Center of Buddhist Studies. She is the author of several important publications on  Tibetan religious literature and history. See the list of her publications

Visiting PhD student Valentina Punzi (University of Naples “L’Orientale”/ Minzu University of China/ University of Tartu) will deliver a lecture titled "Mountains, Gods and Identities on the Tibetan Plateau" on the same day at 14.15 in Ülikooli 16-214.

Valentina Punzi is PhD candidate at Asian Studies Department of the University of Naples L'Orientale and Tibetans Studies College of Minzu University of China. Her research topics are mountain gods, oral history, collective memory and place-lore in Amdo (Qinghai province, People's Republic of China). Currently she is a visiting PhD student at the Department of Estonian and Comparative Folklore, University of Tartu. Her research in Tartu is supported by European Social Fund’s Doctoral Studies and Internationalisation Programme DoRa, which is carried out by Foundation Archimedes.
