A new course Exploring new heritage: Online family history and memories of migration (FLKU.04.118, 2 ECTC) can be taken as an optional course by all PhD, MA and BA students. The course will be started by Anne Heimo (University of Turku, Finland) who will give a lecture "Exploring new heritage: Online family history and memories of migration (of Finns in Australia)" on Friday 28th Feb at 10.15-12 and a seminar at 12.15-14 in Ülikooli 20-319 (room above University Cafe. The course will continue online in the Moodle till 11th April. Lectures will be held in English. Discussion in Moodle will be in English or in Estonian.
The main question of the course is about the tranformation of the notion of cultural heritage in the context of changing society and forms of tradition. The course focuses on two aspects: migration and globalisation on the one hand, and the development of communication technologies on the other hand. The case studies representing the tranforming meanings of cultural heritage are Finnish-Australian migration stories and family histories in internet.
Everybody is welcome to attend!
