Spring Run welcomes all exercise and sports enthusiasts

On Wednesday, 10 April, at 19:00, the second University of Tartu Spring Run will take place. The five-kilometre course starts next to the University of Tartu sports centre and runs along the river Emajõgi to the Town Hall Square and back. Participants can cover the distance at their own pace by running or walking. Until the end of March, discounted tickets are available.

According to Janelle Uibokand, the main organiser of the Spring Run, the purpose of the run is to promote healthy lifestyles and emphasise the link between mental health and physical activity as well as to offer everyone who loves exercise and nature an opportunity to enjoy sports. We want to get people to move and appreciate the beauty of the city. We definitely intend to continue the Spring Run tradition in the future. If this year's run is a success, why not organise another one in the autumn, for example? said Uibokand.

The Spring Run is open to all sports enthusiasts, so the organiser encourages inviting family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances. In addition to overall standings, the Spring Run will determine the fastest students and the fastest university. The most active faculty of the University of Tartu, based on the number of participants, will also be determined. Winners will receive prizes, and there will be giveaways and an entertainment programme. In addition to the sports event, we also want to offer people other forms of entertainment, said Uibokand.

Registration for the run is open at sport.ut.ee/en/spring-run, with more information about the competition classes. Until 31 March, university staff and students from all universities have the opportunity to buy a discounted ticket for 6 euros (the regular price on 1–7 April is 18 euros and on the day of the run it is 25 euros). To pick up the race numbers before the event, participants who have registered at the discounted rate must present their student card or employee ID card.

Please also note that the roads used for the competition are partially open to traffic. Participants must obey traffic rules, road signs and signals from traffic controllers. To ensure smooth preparations, participants are advised to arrive timely before the start of the race.

The event is organised by the University of Tartu Sports Board (spordiesindus), University of Tartu Academic Sports Club, University of Tartu, University of Tartu Student Union and the Estonian Academic Sports Federation.

The University of Tartu Spring Run is a pre-event for the big alumni get-together on 18 May. See the programme of the alumni get-together.
