What does literature know, and how does it know it?

On 17 September at 18, the Opera Studio of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre presents Alessandro Scarlatti’s opera L’honestà negli amori (“Honesty in Love Affairs”, 1680), reconstructed by Estonian composer Eduard Tubin, at the University of Tartu’s assembly hall. This is the first time the opera will be performed in Estonia.

For Estonian museums a practical info kit on living heritage is going to be published in June. To this end, the UNESCO Chair on Applied Studies of Intangible Cultural Heritage (University of Tartu) collaborates with the Estonian Museum Association and the Estonian Folk Culture Centre.

Students are invited to apply for the blended intensive programme (BIP) Kaustinen ICH Academy taking place in Finland in July 2026. Participants will recieve an Erasmus+ grant.

The UNESCO Chair on Applied Studies of Intangible Cultural Heritage has started a new international research project in cooperation with the Södertörn University from Stockholm, Sweden. Combining theories of membership and security, the project proposes the concept of ‘ambivalent securitization’ to describe situations where migrants are viewed as deserving of membership for economic, humanitarian or other reasons, yet simultaneously perceived as a potential threat.
