There are 20 UNESCO Chairs in Poland and the Baltics

An online workshop for UNESCO Chairs from the Baltic countries and Poland was held on January 23. Representatives of the National Commissions for UNESCO from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland were also present.

The aim of the meeting was to reflect on the joint contribution of the Chairs and the National Commissions to UNESCO priorities and programme. It was an important occasion to share experiences and perspectives.

The Chairholder, Professor Kristin Kuutma spoke on behalf of the UNESCO Chair on Applied Studies of Intangible Cultural Heritage (University of Tartu).

In general, the participants stated that the UNESCO Chairs continue to bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to UNESCO programmes. They also forge an important and necessary link between members of the academic community and the values and priorities of UNESCO.

We are looking forward to future cooperation within this regional network. There are also two other chairs that directly deal with intangible cultural heritage: in Riga (Latvia) and Warsaw (Poland).
