The EU-funded RISE UP project is coming to an end, and the consortium held its final in-person meeting in Vienna in early November.

The UNESCO Chair on Applied Studies of Intangible Cultural Heritage is launching a new series showcasing research and initiatives on intangible cultural heritage. The first hybrid meeting is held on 20 November.

In 2025 and 2026 the UNESCO Chair explores paths of cooperation with French colleagues in the field of intangible cultural heritage. In September a delegation visited Paris.

This year the annual Viljandi Repair Festival taking place on September 22, is co-organised by the UNESCO Chair on Applied Studies of Intangible Cultural Heritage (University of Tartu) as part of the EU funded research project CULTURALITY.

Elo-Hanna Seljamaa has been part of the core faculty of the UNESCO Chair since its inception in 2019, participating in research, teaching and outreach activities. Under her leadership, the Chair will continue the work started by its late founder Professor Kristin Kuutma. Dr. Seljamaa was appointed to this position by Toomas Asser, Rector of the University of Tartu and the appointment was confirmed by UNESCO.

18. juunil toimub ümarlaud, kus arutatakse üht keelepoliitika valdkonna keskset probleemi: kuidas ületada püsiv lõhe keelepoliitika kavandamise ja selle praktilise elluviimise vahel? Ümarlaua korraldavad RISE UPi projekt ja Euroopa Vähemuskeelte Edendamise Võrgustik (Network to Promote Linguistic Diversity, NPLD). Tartu Ülikooli vaimse kultuuripärandi rakendusuuringute UNESCO õppetool on RISE UP konsortsiumi liige ning juhib projektis tööpaketti, mis keskendub just keelepoliitikale.

The University of Tartu’s podcast for prospective international students, “Tiksu to UniTartu”, is back this summer with a second season.

The fourth RISE UP Online Networking Event called “What AI Can and Cannot do for Minoritised Languages” will take place on May 22nd at 14:00-17:00 CEST.
