Dr Olga Khristoforova (Moskva) loengud 11.-12. aprillil 2019

Dr Olga Khristoforova (Director of the Centre for Typological and Semiotic Folklore Studies, Russian State University for the Humanities, Moscow) peab eesti ja võrdleva rahvaluule osakonnas kaks loengut. Üks loeng on vene keeles (11.apr) ja teine loeng (12.apr) inglise keeles.

Изучение веры в колдовство в социальной антропологии. Колдовство и власть в русской деревне.

Лекция будет состоять из двух частей. В первой части мы обсудим, как в антропологии и фольклористике понимается вера в колдовство, откуда она берется и почему так широко распространена по миру. Во второй части мы рассмотрим веру в колдовство в современной русской деревне. Особое внимание будет уделено связи концептов колдовства и власти. В основе лекции – полевые материалы автора, собранные среди старообрядцев Верхокамья (историко-культурная область, находящаяся на границе Пермского края и Удмуртии).

Spirit Possession in a Present-Day Russian Village: Beliefs, Practices, and Interpretations (in English)

The lecture will be based on the data collected in the period from 1999 to 2016 during the author’s field work among Old Believers of the Urals and Udmurtia (Verkhokam’e historical region). The lecturer will examine beliefs in spirit possession which have existed in this region since at least the beginning of the 18^th century. In the present-day Verkhokam’e one can find not only а large corpus of belief narratives about ikota/poshibka (local terms for spirit possession), but also actual persons who consider themselves to be possessed by ikota. The lecturer will analyse belief narratives about ikota as well as interviews with possessed persons. She will review the semantics, pragmatics, social and psychological functions of ideas about spirit possession in the Verkhokam’e.
